The Grand Open will host its 2023 Tournament in Ireland, celebrating Golf & Gourmet Food in Ireland’s Gourmet Capital – Kinsale!

Old Head Golf Links

The outstanding Old Head Golf Links and the beautiful Ballinacurra House will host the Tournament which has visited some of the World’s best Golf Courses & Resorts in the past. This unique Event will allow Golfers from all over the Globe the opportunity to network with like minded individuals in beautiful surroundings while also enjoying some Gourmet Food, through a collaborative menu by Nils Molinder, Mark Moriarty and David Rice. And, of course, there is the small matter of a Ryder Cup style match between Teams Captained by Nils & Mark respectively!

The Grand Open takes place from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd October in Kinsale. Day 1, Friday 20th October, will be the Arrival Day with pick-ups available in Dublin and Cork to take the golfers to Kinsale. Following check-in and a relaxed afternoon, participants will get the chance to meet and network with each that evening at Ballinacurra House while enjoying some sumptuous canapés prepared by Head Chef, David Rice, and his team. There will be some free time to explore Kinsale later that evening, or of course you can enjoy the sublime surroundings at Ballinacurra House as well!

Spectacular beyond belief!

Day 2 will take the Golfers to the Old Head Golf Links after breakfast on Saturday 21st October! Two Teams of 16 Golfers, Captained by Nils Molinder and Mark Moriarty, will take part in an 18-hole Ryder Cup style match made up of executives/entrepreneurs in a mixed four balls over one of the most spectacular Golf Course on the Planet – the Old Head Golf Links! Following golf and some post-match drinks at the Clubhouse at Old Head, the group will return to Kinsale for an evening of delicious drinks and fabulous food at Ballinacurra House – the pre-dinner Drinks Reception will be supported by the local Black’s Brewery & Distillery while the Dinner Menu for the Evening will be a Taste of Kinsale – a collaboration between Nils Molinder, Mark Moriarty & David Rice. It promises to provide the fitting finale to 2 delightful days in Kinsale!

Profiles of our Chefs

Mark Moriarty – Mark is a former San Pellegrino world young chef of the year, and has been listed on the Forbes 30under30. He worked most recently at The Greenhouse Restaurant, under head chef Mickael Viljanen, which held Two Michelin Stars, before finishing in May 2021. He is currently working on numerous food projects, including TV, brand consultancy, pop-up restaurants and ambassador roles, while keeping an eye on new opportunities. Mark can be found on RTE One as presenter of ‘Beyond the Menu’ and ‘Cook In with Mark Moriarty’ As Chef in Residence for Diageo Reserve, he oversees iconic drinks brands such as Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray and Ketel One. He also produces recipes and content for M&S in Ireland. Oh, and he loves his golf!

Nils Molinder – Nils is one of Sweden’s most prominent chefs who runs several famous restaurants around Stockholm. Bl. a. Melander’s fish, Sjöpaviljongen, Wärdshuset Ulla Winbladh and legendary Wedholm’s fish to name a few. Nils also runs the Italian tavern Nostrano in Södermalm outside the restaurant empire and is the author of the seafood bible FISK – The ultimate seafood cookbook ( Arena Publishers). In Kokkarnas Kamp on TV4, you saw Nils as one of the chefs where he won the people’s sympathies with his second place in season four. That Nils, who has been cleaning fish since he was 13 years old, won the sub-competition with fish cleaning was hardly surprising. Together with his brother, Nils received a Michelin star for the classic restaurant Wedholm’s fish and has also won the SM in oyster opening.

David Rice – David is the Head Chef at Ballinacurra House and also runs the Kinsale Gourmet Academy. Before joining Ballinacurra House, David spent 2 years working as head tutor at Dublin’s premier cookery school, Cooks Academy. This enabled him to extend his skills beyond just cooking, and develop further his people and teambuilding skills. Prior to this, David was a senior chef at Dublin’s Michelin star restaurant Chapter One. Before that he was head chef at the Mustard Seed Lodge in Adare, Co. Limerick where he won Best Chef in Limerick at the Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards 2010. In addition, the Mustard Seed won Best Use of Local Ingredients in 2009 at the Georgina Campbell Awards during David’s tenure.
