Tom’s visit to Connacht Whiskey

Tom was up West last week for our Links Challenge Tournament and managed to get some time to visit both Mount Falcon (blog coming soon!) and also the Connacht Whiskey Company! Being known for enjoying a sip or two of the uisce beatha (water of life/whiskey!), Tom was in his element here. Of course the Connacht Whiskey Company don’t do just whiskey, they produce quality gin, vodka and poitín as well!

Located in Ballina and close to the town centre ,the Connacht Whiskey Company is the result of a dream shared by 4 men, 3 Americans and 1 Irishman, to bring single malt pot still Irish whiskey back to the West of Ireland after an absence of over 100 years and their dream became a reality over the past few years! It is the ideal way to spend an hour or so learning about whiskey and getting to sample some very fine product as well.

Their Distillery Tour takes you through the distillation process of whiskey and also gin, vodka and poitín as well and of course there is the small matter of some tasting afterwards as well! You get the opportunity to sample some of their wonderful whiskey in Mullarkey’s Bar which is set in a relaxing atmosphere within the Distillery itself. It’s not every day you can sample the product only a few feet away from where it is made! Their superb range of spirits includes Connacht Irish Whiskey, Brothership Blended Whiskey, Spade & Bushel Irish Whiskey, Ballyhoo Grain Irish Whiskey, Straw Boys Poitín & Irish Vodka and also Conncullin Irish Gin. Tom tried but failed to get a bottle of each out the door with him on his way that evening!

  • Connacht Special Select, €22 – Guided tour followed by a sampling of our specially selected whiskeys presented neat: Ballyhoo Irish Whiskey, Brothership Blended Whiskey and Spade and Bushel 10 Year Old Cask strength Whiskey
